Fred Moore-A Master of Appealing Art
Fred Moore is one of the unsung heroes of the art of the last century, though animators know him will (or should if they actually study what they are doing). His designs are beautiful and adorable. One thing that allowed Fred Moore to be so brillent was that his work was so rounded and simplistic that it allowed him to focus on creating the perfect picture for characters from any angle. The beauty of the Mickey Mouse he designed is that he changes to be cutely composed from any angle. Much better then the modern Mickey which is perpetually trapped in a single set of shapes as outlined by a computers vector program. Fred Moore did a number of other designs that are well beloved including the Dwarves for Snow White. Perhaps his greatest influence comes from the fact that he inspired and trained many of Disney's greatest artists including the legendary Frank and Ollie. What Fred Moore showed was that beautiful art with strong appeal is simplistic in line and form, that complexity can be distracting from the emotion. Fred Moores life sadly became tragic, because as an artist few could match is appeal, but he had trouble making strongly anatomical art, and his acting skills where somewhat less then that of many of the animators he trained. Soon these animators would surpass him in the studio, and those who he had trained he would come to assist. Fred Moore was given to depression, and so did not fullfill all he could have before he died in a car accident at a young age. |
